Planetary Geology & Spaceflight Experience

October 15-19, 2026 (inclusive of travel days)

Think of your favorite photograph from the Moon, Mars, or other world. Have you ever wanted to read the stories recorded in those rocks? This is your chance to learn how. Join planetary geologist and Planetary Society member Dr. Kirby Runyon (Planetary Science Institute) on a three-day, four-night expedition to New Mexico's finest planetary geology analog sites: Understand tube-fed pahoehoe lava flows at Carrizozo; soak in the "magnificent desolation" of volcanic Aden Crater; find your own "alien rock" (that is, a mantle xenolith) at Aden Crater; and stand transfixed with sunset at the sublime White Sands National Park. Apollo and Artemis astronauts have trained in some of these locations. Intrigued?

Your trip won't be complete without a primer in spaceflight: learn about suborbital human spaceflight and launch operations with Virgin Galactic at Spaceport America; brush up on space history at Alamogordo's New Mexico Museum of Space History; and command your own mission at the Las Cruces Challenger Learning Center. Our cohort will be co-led by space educator and philosopher Dr. Mark Wagner. We'll take advantage of any clear night skies for guided stargazing.

Space is limited to 20 people.

Our guided expedition brings you face-to-face with these monumental statues, exploring Rano Raraku where they were carved, and standing in awe of the fifteen sentinels at Ahu Tongariki. Immerse yourself in the island's culture with a visit to the ceremonial village of Orongo, located on the edge of a volcanic crater.

Our Easter Island tour is designed to minimize environmental impact. By participating in a half-day beach cleanup, you directly contribute to protecting this fragile ecosystem from the global plastic crisis while learning firsthand from the Rapa Nui about local conservation efforts.

Space for this expedition is limited to 20 people. Book your trip and prepare for an unforgettable adventure at siriustravel.com.

The Life of Galileo through Padua and Florence, October 2027

Follow the revolutionary journey of Galileo Galilei through two Renaissance cities that shaped modern science. Begin in Padua where, from 1592 to 1610, the young professor conducted groundbreaking experiments and built his famous telescope, calling these years the happiest of his life. Discover the workshop where he revealed Jupiter’s moons and transformed our understanding of the cosmos. Continue to Florence, where Galileo lived from 1610 to his death in 1642 and where he served as the Medici court’s mathematician and philosopher, publishing works that challenged centuries of belief. Walk through the sites of his greatest triumphs and deepest struggles, from the glittering halls of the Palazzo Pitti to his villa in Arcetri, where—under house arrest—he completed his masterwork on physics. Experience the places where genius, ambition, and courage collided with authority, forever changing how humanity views the universe.
