Voyager 1 at Jupiter near closest approach This narrow-angle mosaic of a turbulent upwelling zone north of Jupiter's equator was captured by Voyager 1 just a few hours before its closest approach to the planet on March 5, 1979. The distance to the planet was 753,000 km. This mosaic has been colorized with a lower-resolution wide-field image taken concurrently with the narrow-angle mosaic. NASA / JPL-Caltech / Justin Cowart
