Voyager 1’s best view of Enceladus Voyager 1 did not approach Enceladus very closely. This is its best view, taken from a distance of 624,000 kilometers on November 12, 1980. The view includes Enceladus' active southern hemisphere, but was so distant that no detail is visible (although it might be possible to look for albedo changes). NASA / JPL / Ted Stryk
