Selfie first looks The images above show the first looks at Opportunity’s self-portrait, which she took on
her 5000th day of working on Mars. Left shows a first ‘draft’ processing by author and
planetary outreach educator, and frequent MER Update image contributor Stuart
Atkinson. Though rough, it shows the first vision of this beloved rover in her Sol 5000
moment on Mars. The second image was processed by the team at JPL in the days
before the rover and her selfie team added a tier of images, and James Sorenson and
Don Davis processed another, more complete version in near true Martian color as
