Scarlatti basin on Mercury This image shows the peak-ring basin Scarlatti in false color. The bright, irregular depression on the interior ring of the basin is thought to be a volcanic vent. There are also hollows present in the southern section of the peak ring that appear blue compared to the surrounding material. The Scarlatti basin is 132 km in diameter. NASA / JHUAPL / CIW
