Martian corona
Martian corona Mars, as seen by NASA/ESA's Hubble Space Telescope in the ultraviolet at two different times. In the top image, Mars is at its farthest distance from the Sun in its orbit, and in the bottom image, the planet is at its closest to the Sun. Mars' atmosphere (the grainy cloud around it) appears more extended when the Sun is closer. NASA, ESA, STScI, J. T. Clarke (Boston University)
