Mariner 6 and 7 mosaic of Sinus Meridiani This mosaic was lovingly constructed from Mariner 6 and 7 data by Ted Stryk. Most of the data is from Mariner 6; a small gore between two mosaics was filled in with some Mariner 7 data. The mosaics cover Sinus Meridiani, the location of the Opportunity landing site.  None of the landmarks visited by Opportunity is visible in this image, but "Endeavour," the informal name of the large crater to which Opportunity is now driving, is just visible as a dark spot. Also marked on the map is Miyamoto, one of the proposed landing sites for Mars Science Laboratory. Mariner 6 and 7 flew by Mars on July 31 and August 5, 1969.
