Io in March 2023 NASA's Juno spacecraft captured this image of Jupiter's moon Io at a distance of 51,570 kilometers (32,044 miles) on March 1, 2023, during the mission's 49th Jupiter flyby. Most of the dark spots on the surface are the result of volcanic eruptions. This is the closest Io flyby since New Horizons passed through the Jupiter system en route to Pluto in 2007.
