An Earth rock from the Moon Analysis of a rock brought back from the Moon by Apollo 14 astronauts discovered that it actually originated on Earth, likely making its way to the Moon after being ejected by a large impact. Researchers knew it came from the Earth based on the presence of large quantities of minerals that are common on Earth but rare on the Moon.
