A potential goldmine? Left and right eye views of the smushed up soils and overturned pitted rocks scene clearly show that Opportunity turned up some very interesting colors when she took 13-filter images of it using her Pancam’s multispectral capabilities (right image). “A lot of the color differences in the scene are not associated with definable spectral characteristics that I could assign any kind of mineral ID to,” said MER Athena Science Team member Bill Farrand, who leads the mission’s research on this front.
