Come to the Party!
n the National Mall, Washington, D.C.
ctober 23 & 24
Have you made your plans yet to celebrate science, embrace engineering, and party, party, party at the USA Science & Engineering Festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on October 23 & 24?
Bill Nye the Science Guy (fondly known to us here as Executive Director of the Planetary Society) will be there to charge people up about solar sailing by presenting our plans for LightSail 1. He'll be hanging out at the Society's booth to talk to Members and potential Members about the possible future in space.
You can launch yourself on a mission of discovery via the Planetary Society's Faces of Exploration. As part of our Messages From Earth, we're going to be taking people's pictures and incorporating them into a mosaic that will fly on LightSail 1. This is your chance for a tiny bit of spaceflight glory, so make sure you stop by our booth.
You're also invited to hear Bill Nye speak from the Freedom Plaza Stage at high noon on Sunday the 24th. His topic is (no surprise) "The Planetary Society Presents Solar Sailing."
Then Bill will be heading over to the Baird Auditorium in the National Museum of Natural History at 4 pm to present the prizes in the Kavli Science Video Contest. Kids who entered the contest were asked to create videos that explained why "Science is Cool!"
It's going to be fun. It's going to be entertaining. It's even going to be educational. You and the kids won't want to miss the party at the USA Science & Engineering Festival.Click here for more on the Kavli video contest. Click here for information on the USA festival itself.
