Planetary Citizenship in the Next Space Age

Two Prizes. Two Planets. One Party.

Neil deGrasse Tyson and Bill Nye the Science Guy® ask you: What does it mean to be a citizen of planet Earth 50 years after Sputnik changed our world? 

This fall in New York City, Tyson, The Planetary Society’s president, and vice-president Bill Nye will combine forces on stage for a lively event: Planetary Citizenship in the Next Space Age. The two celebrated speakers will toast (and perhaps roast) everything from the current state of science literacy and space in a fun and free-wheeling event.

Our evening will be anchored by the presentation of two very special awards:

The Thomas O. Paine Award for the Advancement of Human Exploration of Mars to Michael C. Malin, founder and CEO of Malin Space Science Systems.  Mike’s the man who brought you all those glorious images from Mars Global Surveyor and transformed our understanding of the Red Planet.

The Cosmos Award for Outstanding Public Presentation of Science to Paula S. Apsell, Executive Producer of NOVA.  Paula has been bringing the wonders of science to the public for over 30 years and has made NOVA the showcase for science documentaries.

We will continue the party at a reception with the evening’s stars on the 40th floor of 7 World Trade Center at the New York Academy of Sciences.  Join the celebration while enjoying the glittering Manhattan skyline.
