Snow says: "I produced the artwork over the New Year holiday in a medium
called encaustic, which is basically molten pigmented wax
which one paints on, then scrapes, scratches, etc, and then seals in successive
layers with a blowtorch. It was really fun to do. My thinking in doing this
was from my scientific understanding of what Venus must be like -- I teach
about planetary processes in a high school class on environmental science,
and the extremes of temperature, pressure etc. that are found on Venus are
undeniably fascinating. The fact that the medium itself involves molten materials
and a blowtorch adds both to the visual result, and an ironic side point."
