Space Topics: Mars Trivia Contest 2007

Prizes and Rules

Race to Mars

Each week we will award two prizes, with the winners selected randomly from all correct answers to the week's trivia question. One winner will receive a copy of the book "Race to Mars," the companion volume to the science fiction mini-series. Author Dana Barry interweaves the true story of Mars exploration with excerpts from the fictional tale of a human expedition in the year 2030. Chock full of historic photographs and full-color images of Mars, "Race to Mars" will make a handsome addition to any space library.

An Explorers Guide to Mars Poster

A second winner will receive a copy of our beautiful and informative Explorers Guide to Mars poster. The poster features images from the Mars Odyssey, Mars Express, Mars Global Surveyor, and Viking orbiters as well as images of Mars' surface from the Spirit and Opportunity rovers, and Pathfinder and Viking spacecraft. Captions and charts enhance a detailed US Geological Survey map produced from data returned from Mars Global Surveyor's Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter.

The book and poster are assigned randomly to the two winners; winners will not be given a choice of prizes.

You may submit only one trivia answer per week, but you can participate in each of the seven weekly contests. Duplicate entries will be disqualified. At the conclusion of the seventh week, The Planetary Society will randomly select three grand prize winners from all correct entries received during the duration of the contest.

Discovery Canada Press Kit - Race to Mars

Each Grand Prize Winner will receive an official Discovery Channel Mars press kit and a copy of the book, "Race to Mars." Press kit materials -- enclosed in a striking metal box -- include a two-dvd set of the "Race to Mars" mini series as well as Episodes 1 and 2 of the "Mars Rising" documentary. Each press kit also contains information booklets about both "Race to Mars" and "Mars Rising," with a wealth of interesting background material on both productions. These press kits are truly collector's items.

The Planetary Society thanks Discovery Channel Canada for their donation of the books and press kits.
