These images are part of a new version of the Voyager data set under development by the Rings Node of the Planetary Data System, which is hosted by the SETI Institute. They have all been cleaned (reseau marks removed), calibrated (dark-current subtracted, etc.), and geometrically corrected (to eliminate camera distortion). For more information on this processing, visit the page describing the calibrated and geometriclaly corrected Voyager Saturn data set at the Rings Node. The calibration process and data set has not yet passed peer review; in particular, there appears to be some problem with the dark-current subtraction in some (possibly large) fraction of the images. Also, it is a known problem that some of the images have the wrong target specified. If you discover an image in this data set that appears to be misidentified, the Rings Node would appreciate notification about the misidentified image. (To submit a comment, visit the data set page and follow the comment link on the left navigation bar.)
The data set made available by the Rings Node was downloaded by Emily Lakdawalla between April and June 2007, and run through Björn Jónsson's IMG2PNG utility to convert it from PDS to PNG format. PNG is a lossless compression scheme, so the pixel values in the PNG formatted images are the same as those in the PDS formatted images. Once the data set has passed peer review, the peer-reviewed data set will be re-downloaded and re-processed and made available here. If you find these pages to be of value, please consider making a donation to The Planetary Society. (I am sure the SETI Institute also wouldn't mind donations in support of the reprocessing efforts.)
Click on the thumbnails to download full-resolution PNG versions. Most of the images will appear nearly black on your screen, because their pixel values do not occupy the full range available in the 16-bit image format. You can use image or paint software to adjust brightness and contrast in the images to reveal more details. For information on basic image processing techniques, including how to compose color images, visit The Planetary Society's Space Imaging site.
Note: Some images of Telesto can be found on the "Unknown Satellite" index page.
